Choosing To Believe

I choose to believe

It's not like they say.

That we can all enter -

That we're all the same.

There is right and wrong

But not right and wrong people

What place does that have

In a church, 'neath a steeple?

The point is not judging

But acceptance, you see.

Not to see only flaws -

Not to love by degrees.

So, when our days are over

And our work is through

Don't listen to them...

You can come in, too.

Losses

How can it be
A just world
When right in my corner
Kids feel hopeless and
Languish with
No one to protect them?
I will rise up
And vanquish this hate
Masquerading
As well-meaning -
When really,
There's no meaning
To this
At all.

Outcry

When things
Don't look right
To your mind
Don't turn a
Blind eye,
Hope an end
Is in sight.
Take life into
Your hands
And then storm the
Gates
And trust that
Injustice
Grows only
From hate.

Stone's Throw

How can one
Judge another,
And call it
A lifeline?
How can one
Come to love
Along with
So much hate?
Put down your
Words of negativity
And take a lesson
From a person
Who embraces
Love.

Muse

I wonder if
There will ever
Come a day
When people's
Rights
Will be respected?

Liberty and Justice for All

Look past the rainbow colors
And into people's hearts.
Look past the things that scare you
And into loving eyes.
Listen past the hateful words
And to the simple plea.
Look past your own intolerance
Your judgment
Your agenda
Your fear -
Look into the future
And realize this:
It's time for respect
And it's time for a change.

Where Are We?

Unfocused voices.
Untold truths.
Untried theories.
Unprotected values.
What is our society
Degenerating into?
We preach to treat
Our fellow people
With respect, and
Dignity -
Then we take away
Human rights.
How right is that?
