People-Pleaser

What do you think
Of the state of things now
The way they are
And how they might
Change somehow?

I know it's my duty
To guard and protect
My life and my heart
With love and respect.

But it's hard to
Understand
How far is far enough
And when is too much

When it comes to
Fitting in - to belonging
That longing
That we all possess.

What a mess
My desire to people-please is.
Why can't I keep the rest
And just release
This?
